Ray “Jean” McCrary was born on February 26, 1935, in her grandmother’s home on Ferrylake Road in Tifton, Georgia, to Eddie and Lois Gibbs. In those days, doctors delivered babies at home—and Jean’s arrival came with a story her family still loves to share. The doctor was asleep in a chair when she was born, so he charged her parents only half price: $25. That bit of good fortune and humor set the tone for a life marked by resilience, gratitude, and warmth.

Jean grew up on a farm with one brother and two sisters, learning the value of hard work early on. Her parents were both farmers, and later her mother worked in the hospital dining hall. Jean was always at her parents’ side—especially when it came to tobacco farming. Her father, with a twinkle in his eye, called her “Sammy” after a red-headed, freckle-faced boy, a nickname that stuck and became a sign of his affection.

As a teenager, Jean attended a small school and graduated in a class of just twelve students. She made her mark on the basketball court, especially with her signature long shots, and formed lifelong friendships in that close-knit community.

Love found Jean when she was just fifteen. She first met her future husband, Franklin, during a double-date setup involving her sister. Franklin was so taken that he asked Jean’s sister if she thought Jean would go out with him. Two years later, after a gentle courtship, Jean and Franklin married and began a partnership that would shape a loving family for generations.

Together, they raised three daughters, each one making their own way in the world while staying close to their roots. Pat lives in Sylvester and serves as office manager at Sunbelt Ford; Peggy lives in Forsyth and is also an office manager; Cathy lives in Dawsonville and is a registered nurse. Jean and Franklin are proud grandparents to six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren—each one a joy and a blessing.

Franklin worked for many years as a personnel manager at Lykes Brothers Market. When the market closed, he followed his creative side, building cabinets, carving wood, and refinishing furniture—skills that brought beauty and usefulness to many homes. Jean worked as a cashier at Big Star Grocery Store and later at Park Drug Company, always greeting customers with a kind word and a smile.

Faith and community are central to Jean’s life. She is a devoted member of Westview Baptist Church and finds joy in traveling and tending her garden. Her gentle spirit, strong work ethic, and deep love for her family shine through in everything she does.

Today, as a cherished member of the Legacy Village of Tifton family, Jean continues to share her kindness and warmth with everyone she meets. Her life, rooted in faith, hard work, and love, is a testament to the values she holds dear—and we are truly blessed to have her as part of our community.

On a quiet morning in Rebecca, Georgia, with sunlight spilling over the fields, Nellie Faye Odom’s story began. Born on July 21, 1943, she was the third of four children raised by Israel and Jane. Life on the family farm shaped her from the start—her father working the land, her mother running the house and joining him in the fields, and the whole family sharing both the work and the simple joys that came with it.

Faye’s school days were spent just outside Rebecca in a humble house known as Emory. That little building may have been simple, but the lessons she learned—about friendship, community, and the comfort of belonging—have stayed with her ever since.

After finishing school, Faye met Joe, the man who would become her lifelong companion. Joe served in the Army before returning to Georgia to farm the familiar rows of crops. Together, Faye and Joe built a life grounded in devotion and teamwork. Faye balanced tending to their home with helping on the farm, and their happiest day came with the birth of their beloved daughter.

When Faye lost Joe, she drew on her deep well of resilience and found new purpose in work and community. She spent many years at Calhoun Produce, where her steady work ethic and gentle spirit left a mark on everyone she met. At home, her hands were rarely still—she found joy in her garden and in quilting, piecing together vibrant quilts that reflected her patience and her love for those around her.

Among her fondest memories is the day she met President Jimmy Carter during a visit to Plains, Georgia—a story she shares with pride and a quiet smile.

Faith has always been Faye’s compass. As a devoted member of Hawpond Church, she’s walked through both joy and hardship with a sense of gratitude and grace. Here at Legacy Village of Tifton, her warmth and kindness are felt every day. Faye’s gentle spirit and quiet strength inspire everyone around her, and we are truly grateful to have her as part of our family.

Social connection plays a powerful role in protecting mental and emotional well-being as we age, yet it is often one of the first things to fade when seniors live alone. Changes in health, mobility or daily routine can make it harder to stay socially engaged, leading many older adults to experience isolation without realizing it. Moving into a senior living community like Legacy Village of Tifton can be a meaningful step toward restoring connection, purpose and a sense of belonging as well as a means to keeping the mind sharp.

One of the greatest benefits of senior living is the built-in opportunity for daily interaction. Instead of relying on occasional visits or scheduled outings, residents are surrounded by peers and team members who become part of everyday life. Shared meals, group activities and casual conversations create natural moments of connection that help seniors feel less alone and more emotionally supported. Friendships formed often become deep and meaningful, offering comfort during both joyful and challenging moments.

Social engagement also supports mental sharpness and emotional resilience. Legacy Village of Tifton offers structured programs such as musical events, games, classes and creative activities that encourage conversation and learning. These experiences help keep the mind active while providing excitement for the days ahead. For many seniors, having something to look forward to each day makes a meaningful difference in overall outlook.

For families, choosing senior living can bring peace of mind. Knowing a loved one is socially connected and emotionally supported eases concerns about loneliness and isolation. Families often notice positive changes after a move, including improved mood, increased engagement and a renewed sense of joy in their loved one’s daily life.

Ultimately, moving into a senior living community is not about giving something up. It is about gaining connection, companionship and support. By prioritizing social interaction and meaningful relationships, Legacy Village of Tifton helps seniors protect their mental and emotional health while enjoying a fuller, more connected way of life.

After the busy holiday season, many seniors notice changes in energy levels, mobility or comfort, making the New Year a natural time for families to pause and consider what support will help their loved ones feel their best. New Year care focuses on thoughtful steps that nurture independence, confidence and quality of life throughout the year. For some seniors who may be feeling the effects of aging, a senior living community that emphasizes whole-person wellness, such as Legacy Village of Tifton, can offer the right balance of support, connection and peace of mind for both residents and families.

One important part of New Year care is access to therapy services that help seniors maintain strength, balance and independence. Physical and occupational therapy can play a key role in improving mobility, supporting recovery and enhancing daily routines. At Legacy Village, therapy services are coordinated with care teams, making it easier for residents to participate consistently and work toward goals that support long-term wellness.

Pain management is another essential focus as seniors begin the year. Chronic pain can affect more than just physical comfort; it can also impact mood, sleep and overall quality of life. Senior living communities take a comprehensive approach to pain management, combining medical oversight, therapy, movement and comfort-focused strategies. This collaborative care helps ensure concerns are addressed early, allowing residents to remain engaged and comfortable in their daily lives.

Staying active is a powerful way for seniors to support both physical and emotional well-being. Regular movement helps maintain flexibility, strength and balance while also encouraging social connection. At Legacy Village of Tifton, residents have access to a variety of opportunities to stay active, from gentle exercise classes and walking groups to wellness programs designed to meet residents where they are. These activities are thoughtfully structured to be safe, enjoyable and empowering.

Equally important to physical care is the social connection that supports mental and emotional wellbeing. Legacy Village offers daily opportunities for meaningful interaction, whether through shared meals, group activities, creative programs or simple conversations with neighbors and team members who truly know each resident. These moments of connection help reduce feelings of isolation, encourage a sense of belonging and bring joy to everyday life.

For families, knowing a loved one is supported by a compassionate team that prioritizes therapy, pain management and active living can provide lasting peace of mind. By focusing on whole-person wellness, Legacy Village of Tifton help residents begin the year feeling supported, capable and connected, creating a strong foundation for health and happiness in the months ahead.

If you’ve met Ms. Ruth Virginia West, you already know that joy seems to follow her wherever she goes. Born on October 20, 1934, in Berrien County to Eschoel and Bessie, Ruth entered the world so tiny that her grandfather lovingly nicknamed her “Midget.” The rest of the family called her “Jenny,” and both names stuck as symbols of the petite girl with a big spirit.

One of six children, Virginia remembers her childhood as wonderfully happy. She grew up on her family’s tobacco farm, helping her father in the fields and embracing the simple, rich rhythms of country life. She fondly recalls walking a mile each morning to the bus stop, where a kind neighbor kept a big pot of hot chocolate ready for the children on chilly days—a memory that still warms her heart.

Virginia attended Tift County Schools and completed her education through the 9th grade. At 17, she met the love of her life, Thurman, at Loyles 5 & 10 store. Just two months later, the two were married in the courthouse and whisked away to Jacksonville, Florida, for their honeymoon. Together they built a beautiful life, welcoming one daughter, Vicki, and later two grandchildren, Chase and Kelly. Virginia and Thurman shared an extraordinary 72 years of marriage before his passing.

Throughout her life, Virginia worked in several department stores, dress shops, and even at the hospital before retiring from Cornerstone Christian Bookstore—a perfect fit for her gentle spirit and love of faith. Thurman devoted many years to working in car dealerships, and together they were a steadfast, beloved pair within the Tifton community.

Virginia also has an adventurous side. She played forward on her basketball team, traveled to California multiple times, cruised along the Canadian coast, and even met Lee Greenwood at the Grand Ole Opry—an experience she recalls with a smile.

Her faith has been the cornerstone of her life. Since 1953, when her parents first invited her and Thurman to visit First Assembly of God in Tifton, the church became their spiritual home. Thurman served as a deacon for 50 years, and Virginia has continued to share her love for the Lord and her gift for ministering to others.

Today, we are grateful and honored to have Ms. West as part of our Legacy Village of Tifton family. Her kindness, resilience, and unwavering faith brighten our community each day.

Caring for Seniors During the Holidays: Why You Shouldn’t Wait to Make the Move

The holiday season is often filled with family gatherings, joyful traditions and meaningful moments—but for many families caring for an aging loved one, it can also be one of the most stressful times of the year. As routines change and days get busier, meeting the needs of aging parents or grandparents can become more complex, leaving family caregivers feeling stretched thin. While many families consider senior living as a helpful next step, they often hesitate to make the transition before the holidays. Common concerns include the fear that a loved one will feel lonely or abandoned, the worry it will disrupt the season and family traditions, or bring judgment from family and friends. But for many families, waiting may actually increase stress for both seniors and caregivers rather than ease it.

In reality, moving into a senior living community before the holidays can be one of the most supportive decisions a family can make. At Legacy Village of Tifton, the holidays are filled with festive events, warm social connections and compassionate team members who help residents feel at home quickly. Rather than spending the season stressed and exhausted, families can share more meaningful, quality time together—free from the pressures of caregiving tasks and safety concerns. Legacy Village encourages visits, whether it is at their community or at home for Christmas dinner. Instead of a disruption, the move often brings relief, stability and more joy to everyone involved.

The holidays can also highlight areas where a senior needs additional support: increased confusion in busy environments, difficulty navigating crowded gatherings and challenges with mobility often become more noticeable this time of year. Legacy Village of Tifton is trained to meet these needs in a way that keeps the season enjoyable. For those with limited mobility, communities offer accessible events, transportation assistance, and safe, thoughtfully designed spaces—ensuring seniors can still participate in the traditions they love. For residents living with Alzheimer’s or dementia, structured activities, sensory-friendly celebrations and predictable daily routines help prevent overstimulation and confusion. These specialized supports help families worry less and give seniors a safer, more comfortable holiday environment.

Christmas-time is already hectic, and many caregivers are already juggling managing medications, preparing meals, assisting with personal care and coordinating doctor’s visits. By moving a loved one into a community before the holiday rush, caregivers gain the gift of rest. Rather than carrying the full weight alone, they can rely on a team of trained professionals who are available around the clock. This relief allows caregivers to enjoy holiday moments more fully—sharing stories over dinner, watching favorite movies together or simply being present without the pressure of caregiving.

It’s also important to remember that the transition into senior living doesn’t erase family traditions—it often enhances them. Families can decorate their loved one’s new apartment together, bring treasured holiday recipes to share or join community events designed to include residents and their families. If your family has been considering senior living but putting it off until the new year, this season may actually be the perfect time to make the move. With compassionate care, festive community life and support tailored to each resident’s needs, Legacy Village of Tifton can help bring peace, comfort and joy to your loved one and to you.

Sandra Chambers’ story begins on the sandy shores of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, where she was born to John and Edith Swain on February 27, 1947. Her early years were shaped by the rhythms of a close-knit family. Her father delivered milk across the neighborhood, while her mother worked at the local cigar factory and later became a trailblazer by opening the first Maryland Fried Chicken in town.

Eventually, her father would strike out on his own, running a gas station that became a local fixture. Sandra grew up with two sisters and a brother, finding her place in a lively household always on the move.

When Sandra was seven, her family moved to Waycross, Georgia, where she spent her school years. At Ware County High School, she was more than just a good student; she made her mark on the basketball court and in the Anchor Club, graduating with the class of 1964. After high school, Sandra set her sights on a future in education, starting her college journey at ABAC in Tifton before transferring to Valdosta State, where she earned her master’s degree in education.

It was at ABAC that Sandra met Sid Chambers, the man who would become her husband. Life with Sid meant years of adventure, as he served in the military for two decades, and together they experienced the challenges and excitement of life on the move. When Sid retired, the couple decided to put down roots in North Carolina, trading travel for the comfort of a settled home.

Family has always been at the heart of Sandra’s story. She and Sid raised two children, watched their family grow to include three grandchildren and a great-grandchild, and eventually, Sandra felt the pull to return to Tifton, eager to be closer to those she loves most.

Now at Legacy Village of Tifton, Sandra’s days are filled with the simple joys she’s always cherished. She has a passion for cross stitching—a craft that reflects her patient spirit and her knack for weaving together the threads of past and present. Surrounded by family and memories, Sandra continues to stitch her story, one day at a time, in the place she now calls home.

Lucille Delk’s life is a story of grit, faith, and old-fashioned Georgia devotion. Born in Coffee County on September 10, 1931, to John H. Whitley and Lola Christmas, Lucille grew up with an older brother and the honest labor of farm life. Her father was a farmer and sharecropper, and when Lucille was still small, the family moved to Alapaha. There, days were shaped by the rhythms of the fields and the barn—school in the morning, afternoons spent working soil and tending animals, and every sunrise marked by the chore she remembers most: milking cows, so many that to this day, she can’t bear the sight of milk.

Lucille attended school in Alapaha until her senior year, when another move brought the family to Willacoochee. She graduated in 1949, earning valedictorian honors, but as a transfer student, she wasn’t allowed to accept the distinction on stage. Her family’s pride ran deep all the same, and Lucille pressed on with her trademark determination.

After high school, her family dreamed she’d move to Atlanta with her aunt and uncle, who promised her a good job and new prospects. But Lucille’s heart was already set. She’d started dating Rollie Delk, a family friend she’d known since childhood. When her family moved again—this time to Tifton—Rollie made the trip from Willacoochee just to see her. Though Lucille’s mother wasn’t ready to let her little girl go, her father gave his blessing, and in time, her mother’s heart came around too.

Lucille and Rollie began their journey with just $25 in their pockets and a shared determination to build something lasting. Together, they founded Delk’s Tile and Carpet and poured their energy into their business, their faith, and their growing family. They raised four boys, and Lucille is now the proud grandmother of many—she still gets emotional recalling the day her first granddaughter was born, crying so hard at the hospital that the nurses thought something was wrong, when in reality, she was overwhelmed with happiness to welcome a little girl into the family.

Since 1956, Lucille and Rollie have been charter members of Tifton First Assembly Church of God. Even after Rollie’s passing, Lucille’s faith and her church community remain cornerstones in her life. For years, she found joy in her garden, and her favorite pastimes were freezing and canning the fruits and vegetables she grew—simple pleasures that connected her to the land and to years spent caring for others.

Spend just a few minutes with Lucille and you’ll feel the warmth and kindness that have defined her for a lifetime. Hers is a legacy built on sweat, love, and a steadfast belief in family and faith—a legacy that shines in every smile and every story she shares.

Richard Brown’s story is one of unexpected turns, good-natured mischief, and a knack for finding adventure wherever he goes. Born in North Carolina, Richard’s childhood took a new direction when his family moved to Ashburn, Georgia. School days for Richard were a little less than conventional. When asked if he played sports, Richard grins and says, “I played a lot of hookey.” He and his friends could often be found skipping class, making their way to Tifton to spend afternoons at the local pool hall.

Despite his playful ways, Richard graduated from Turner County High School in 1970. Soon after, he enlisted in the Navy, serving his country until 1974. After leaving the service, Richard’s life shifted again—he married, became the proud father of three boys, and settled into the world of hospitality, managing a motel in Albany before eventually moving to Macon.

It was in Macon that Richard’s life took a Hollywood twist. While strolling the streets one day, he crossed paths with legendary director John Huston, who asked if Richard would like to be an extra in the movie Wise Blood, which was filming in town. Richard said yes, and just like that, found himself part of a film set—a memory he still recalls with a smile.

Richard has always been drawn to simple pleasures. He loves to fish, and his sharp mind makes him a formidable Jeopardy player—he rarely misses a question. Faith is also important to him, and he is a member of the First Independent Methodist Church in Eaton, Georgia.

Now at Legacy Village of Tifton, Richard’s days are filled with stories, laughter, and the quiet satisfaction of a life lived on his own terms. From skipping school to movie sets and everything in between, Richard Brown’s journey is proof that the best adventures are often the ones you never see coming.

Spend just a little time with Bobby McLemore at Legacy Village of Tifton, and you’ll quickly pick up on his easy sense of humor, warmth, and the wealth of stories he carries with him.

Born on January 25, 1946, in Turner County, Georgia, Bobby grew up as the only child to loving parents—a close-knit trio that later moved to Fitzgerald, where Bobby would graduate from high school in 1964. His childhood was marked by the strong bonds of family, a sense of community, and a love for sports. Bobby played baseball, football, and basketball, channeling his spirited energy into every game.

After high school, Bobby served four years in the US Army, answering the call to serve his country with pride. When he returned home, he studied Criminal Justice and joined the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Police in Tifton. Bobby likes to recall that in the 1960s, entering law enforcement was as simple as having the right attitude—the formal schooling came later.

In 1979, Bobby decided to change direction and pursue education. He went back to school at South Georgia College in Douglas to earn a degree in education, and continued his studies in Industrial Systems Technology in Valdosta. He went on to teach in that field, earning two Teacher of the Year awards for his dedication and impact in the classroom. Bobby retired from teaching in 2003, leaving behind a legacy of encouragement and hard work.

But true to his adventurous spirit, Bobby wasn’t ready to slow down. He returned to law enforcement, joining the Ben Hill County Sheriff’s Office and eventually serving as Sheriff. Bobby’s warm and approachable nature made him well-liked among his peers, and he was honored to serve as President of the Sheriffs Association. Fellow State Troopers gave him the affectionate nickname “Precious”—a nod to his status as an only child and his good-natured presence on the force. Bobby remained committed to the community he served until his final retirement in 2017.

Outside of his professional life, Bobby is a proud father of two sons and grandfather to twelve grandchildren. He’s an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hunting and fishing—sometimes alongside country music star Darrell Singletary. Bobby is also a member of Arbor Church in Fitzgerald, staying connected to the community and faith that have always grounded him.

In February of 2025, Bobby became part of the Legacy Village of Tifton family. His stories, laughter, and kindness have quickly made him a favorite among residents and team members alike. We’re grateful for the light Bobby brings to our community, and look forward to many more stories and memories with him.

Meet Mr. Jimmy Phillips—a man whose easy smile and love for family and sports have made him a beloved part of our Legacy Village of Tifton community.

Jimmy was born on April 7, 1951, in Bainbridge, Georgia, to Luther and Martha Phillips. His roots are humble and hardworking: his father put in long days at the Department of Transportation while his mother spent her hours at the Cotton Mill. When Jimmy was eight, the family made a couple of moves—first to Albany, then to Tifton, the place that would become home.

At Tift County High School, Jimmy found his place on the football field and the church softball diamond. He played with heart and forged friendships that have lasted a lifetime. After his 1970 graduation, he answered the call to service and joined the United States Marine Corps for a time, a chapter of his life that filled him with quiet pride.

Like his dad, Jimmy built his career at the Department of Transportation, where he became known for his dedication and steady presence. He retired in 2003, leaving behind not just years of service but a legacy of hard work and dependability.

Jimmy’s greatest story, though, began on a blind date. The moment he met Martha, he knew she was the one. Their love grew over five years of dating and blossomed into 34 years of marriage. Together, they’ve raised five children—three sons and two daughters—and their family has grown to include eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Jimmy lights up when he talks about them; nothing means more to him than time spent with the people he loves.

Sports have always been a passion for Jimmy. He’s the guy who’ll cheer on the Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Falcons with unwavering loyalty. Over the years, he competed in weightlifting, even racking up a collection of trophies during a 40-year run. (Ask him about the time he bench pressed 305 pounds—his pride in that achievement shines through!)

Jimmy is a proud, active member of Lenox Baptist Church and brings warmth, kindness, and a quiet strength to our community every day. We feel truly lucky to have him as part of our Legacy family.

If you see Jimmy around, don’t hesitate to say hello. You’ll quickly realize why he’s so cherished here.

Shirley Mae Gunter Petty was born on February 24, 1943 in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi. Her nickname was Shirley Mae Gunter Half! Her daddy worked at a Cotton Mill and mother worked for Herschede Clock company. She had two sisters, one brother and a nephew who was raised by her parents who she considered a brother. Growing up she was very shy. She would see a cute boy in the hall at school, and she would duck her head. That cute boy, whose name was Johnny, would become her husband one day.

She graduated from Starkville High School in 1961and went on to attend college at several different schools in hopes of pursuing a career as an art teacher. She credits her sixth-grade teacher for the decision to pursue a career as an art teacher.

At 26, Shirley and her mom pulled up to a local gas station. Her eyes fell upon Johnny and her heart stopped. Johnny asked Shirley’s brother if he could take her on a date and he agreed. Shirley hadn’t dated until meeting Johnny, not only because she was bashful, but she didn’t think her father would approve. After only two dates, Johnny and Shirley became engaged. Just two months later the pair decided to marry.

Johnny enlisted in the US Marines for three years before he began working as a lawnmower repair man. He even taught Shirley the trade!

After some time in Starkville, Shirley was ready to move to have a fresh start as husband and wife and she picked up a map. She said, “God chose the state of Georgia for me, and I drew a line right in the middle.” She wrote letters to all the County seats to apply for teaching jobs. After several interviews, she accepted the position as an art teacher in Berrien County. She worked at Berrien High School for 32 years until her retirement in 2000.

The couple owned dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits and goats, and she learned how to milk goats. She is a member of Black Creek Church in Berrien County.

Shirley loves to bet on football. When Mississippi State played Georgia, she said she would spray her hair red if Georgia won. And of course she had to! She brings so much joy to our Legacy Village of Tifton family!

After graduating from Norman Park School in 1971, she attended Tift College, receiving a degree in Behavioral Science with a minor in Physical Education. Continuing her education, Judy attended Albany State University for her Master’s in Educational Leadership and Valdosta State University for Teacher Leadership.

While accompanying a friend for a job interview as a Special Education teacher at New Hope School in Ocala, Florida, Judy wound up with the job instead. She taught learners with severe-profound intellectual disorders from ages 6-21 for three years. Judy then found a position at Lake Weir High School for emotionally disturbed children where she also helped design the Special Education department at the school. Judy took a break from teaching as she homeschooled her two children and worked as a secretary at a church. In 1995, Judy returned to Georgia where she took a position at Irwin County High School where she taught Special Education classes and pregnant and parenting teens for 13 years.

Tifton, Ga. (Nov. 2024) — Legacy Village team member, Gregory Bennett, has been named the 2024 Legacy Champion, a highly distinguished award that is chosen by the Legacy Senior Living leadership team once a year. Legacy Senior Living is the management company of Legacy Village of Tifton, which operates a family of senior living communities throughout the Eastern United States.

The Legacy Champion award is the highest team member recognition and the culminating award in the Legacy Going the Extra Mile customer service program. The team member is selected out of over 1,000 employees company-wide. Each month, the Legacy Village leadership team reviews nominations and selects a monthly winner who is awarded $250. At the end of the year, Legacy Village compiles the monthly winners and chooses an annual winner, who is given $500. Each Legacy community submits their annual winner to the home office, who votes on the company-wide Legacy Champion, and awards them $1000 in front of their co-workers, residents and family members. The program encourages residents, family members and co-workers to nominate team members who have excelled in going above and beyond in serving their residents.

Bennett has worked in senior living for fifteen years, 7 of those years at Legacy Village of Tifton. When asked why he chose the senior living industry, he said, “I love knowing that I can make a small difference each day that I go to work. I love being able to take care of the residents, but most all, I love to see them smile.” Bennett continues, “A commitment to going the extra mile means never having to apologize for subpar performance. I am so thankful and blessed to be awarded the 2024 Legacy Champion.”

Cleveland, Tenn. (Feb. 2024) — Legacy Senior Living and Dominion Senior Living, a family of senior living communities serving the Eastern United States, are excited to announce Alzheimer’s Support Services, a new program for both companies. This is a free service that is designed to give support and resources to families and caregivers who are navigating the pressures of caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or other memory loss conditions.

Dr. Ronald Harvard has come aboard as the Director of Alzheimer’s Support Services. As a pastor, counselor, college professor and primary caregiver to his late wife, Linda, who suffered from Alzheimer’s for 20 years, Dr. Harvard brings many years of experience to this new program. At various times, Dr. Harvard has served his alma mater, Lee University, as a faculty member in the psychology department, as Director of Counseling, and as an adjunct faculty member at Lee Online. He and Linda also served as senior pastor at churches in Florida, Indiana, and Georgia.

With degrees in Biblical Studies, Social Psychology, and Pastoral Counseling, Dr. Harvard’s love for teaching and counseling have defined his life, but no more so than the love of his life, Linda, and their four children.

Dr. Harvard’s introduction to Alzheimer’s was personal and very painful. In the fall of 2003, Dr. Harvard recognized the beginning signs of memory loss in his late wife, Linda. Fifteen years later, Linda became a resident of a Legacy Senior Living community, The Harbor at Legacy Village of Cleveland. In May of 2023, Linda passed away. Dr. Harvard chronicled his struggles and victories in his blog, “Dementia: walking victoriously through the ‘Long Goodbye,’” offering lessons learned, meditations, and comfort to many.

“What became clear to me during the process of loving Linda through the battle of Alzheimer’s, was that I was being prepared to minister to families going through similar situations. My mission in leading this new Alzheimer’s Support Service is to provide behavioral insights, practical direction and comfort through support groups and one-on-one meetings,” said Dr. Harvard.

“This is a program that we are so excited to offer to families that are struggling with the challenges of memory loss. We are eager to welcome Dr. Harvard to this position as he supports other family members and caregivers navigating this overwhelming season,” said Barry Ray, CEO and Co-Founder of Legacy Senior Living.

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (June 24, 2020) – In recognition of CNA Appreciation Week, celebrated nationally June 18-24, Legacy Senior Living is honoring a dedicated team of Certified Nursing Assistants who have been tirelessly serving residents at their senior living facilities across the Southeast during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We are profoundly grateful to all our caregivers who serve our seniors in multiple ways throughout the year. During CNA Appreciation Week this year, we chose to honor those who have worked hard to become a licensed certified nursing assistant and who faithfully serve our residents,” said Bryan Cook, Co-Founder and President of Legacy Senior Living.

In its focus on COVID-19 pandemic preparedness in caring for residents at each of its facilities, Legacy Senior Living has given special attention to also caring for the caregivers. This includes keeping all facilities adequately stocked with supplies, minimizing added stress on employees during the pandemic, offering additional incentives to ensure that CDC guidelines are followed during long shifts, and absorbing the cost of outside counseling and childcare support services for employees during this difficult time.

“We are so proud of how all Legacy Senior Living’s caregivers have served so well these last few trying months, and we especially honor our CNAs on CNA Appreciation Week. We want to do everything we can to equip them so that they can continue prioritizing our residents’ safety and security during this time,” says Barry Ray, Co-Founder and CEO of Legacy Senior Living.

The hero CNAs who work night and day at Legacy Senior Living facilities have been featured on each individual facility’s Facebook page so that each local community can meet some of the local heroes who have sacrificed so much for the safety and wellbeing of the seniors during these months of unpredictability. In addition to the Hero Campaign on Facebook, nursing staff at Legacy Senior Living will be receiving hero pay for their brave work on the front lines. Also, each facility will be displaying “Heroes Work Here” signs at all building entrances to publicly recognize the outstanding nurses who work at all the facilities.

Legacy Senior Living’s support center in Cleveland, Tenn., will also be honoring the CNAs by delivering special gifts, as well as honoring all employees who serve the seniors at the facilities. All employees, including CNAs, are eligible to receive a Going the Extra Mile Award, which is a year-round employee recognition program at all Legacy Senior Living facilities. Also, the staff at Legacy Senior Living facilities will have fun with a daily drawing for team members to win money while they are at work.
